Shops, offices, flats, urban nature and a play path: these will be the main elements of Billund’s new shopping plaza (in Danish 'Butikstorvet'), which along with the rest of the city centre will create the setting for an attractive shopping experience and a fun working and everyday life for both locals and visitors.

A blend of residential and commercial

The new shopping plaza, located adjacent to LEGO House, is intended to turn downtown Billund into a natural gathering spot for locals and visitors upon its scheduled completion in autumn 2020. The plan is for Butikstorvet to house a total of six buildings, which will bring together approximately 4,500 sqm of space for shops and offices as well as 20 attractive owner-occupied and rental flats. Based on the Billund Urban Vision, which seeks to maintain the city’s unique character as the Children’s Capital with a focus on play, learning and creativity, a green cityscape will emerge between the buildings with a creative play path, the Playline, and an extension of Billund brook, rising near the LEGO House, as the main recreational elements.

Creating new shopping experiences

On the ground floor level, Butikstorvet will host a wide range of shops, creating brand-new opportunities for a diverse range of enticing shopping experiences together with the rest of the downtown area. In addition to the shops and office facilities, the plaza will provide space for six owner-occupied and 14 rental flats on the upper floors of the buildings. The flats will vary in size, ranging from 95 to 160 sqm. In addition, Butikstorvet will provide access to underground parking facilities to make more space for the shopping plaza itself as well as above-ground parking facilities.
