CORI Hornbæk Hotel
From hospital to seaside hotel
Hornbæk Hotel is one of the town’s most iconic buildings. After many years as a hospital and rehabilitation centre, COPI is now returning the site to its original purpose as a seaside hotel – under the name Cori.
In 2023, COPI acquired Hornbæk Hotel, taking the first steps towards a comprehensive transformation. When the hotel reopens in 2026, it will appear as a modern five-star hotel rooted in both Hornbæk’s identity and the building’s history. Cori will be an open, vibrant and gathering place – to be enjoyed by both locals and visitors all year round.

The transformation of Hornbæk Hotel
The building is an iconic functionalist structure from 1935, designed by architect Ole Falkentorp and originally built as a seaside hotel. The project restores the historic building to its original splendour and function as a hotel, while at the same time ushering it into a new era with world-class design and facilities.
The new hotel will feature 79 rooms and include, among other amenities, a spa, wellness area, restaurant, conference facilities and fitness spaces. The project comprises a total of 6,374 m2 distributed across four floors, a tower, a new top floor and a rear extension.
The building is not only a landmark in Hornbæk, but also an architectural gem of Scandinavian functionalism. The transformation focuses on preserving and integrating as many of the original details as possible – down to materials and interior design – to create a cohesive and authentic hotel experience.
Our vision is to transform the iconic building back to its original expression and function as a seaside hotel. We aim to create a free and open space, while also offering a place of retreat for both local residents and international visitors. The hotel is intended to help connect the town with the harbour and the sea, generating activity and new life throughout the year.Peter Julius Jensen, Investment Director at COPI
A sanctuary for both local and international guests
Hornbæk is a small coastal town, an hour’s drive north of Copenhagen, known for its distinctive beaches and its unique summer atmosphere. During the summer months, the town is alive with activity and visitors enjoying the coastline, the beach, and the local restaurants, cafés and shops.

With the transformation, the building’s tall ground floor is opened up and activated with a restaurant and spa area, allowing the hotel to become a natural link between the town and the harbour. Terraces, outdoor spaces and shared areas create new meeting places where the local community can gather and take part in the life and facilities of the hotel.
We are delighted to be part of the strong and ambitious team behind this exceptional project. As architects, we are proud to contribute to a transformation that unites Olé Falkentorp’s original architecture with a new era of world-class hotel facilities.Inês Tavares Correia, Architect and Associate Partner at AART
