Maritime school opens for the public

The guests had to hold onto their braces when Skagen Skipperskole was inaugurated in a strong gale on the 9th of December. However, the gale-force wind didn’t curb the joy as the city of Skagen finally is able to offer a vibrant learning environment for the future education of skippers and chief officers.
The principal, staff and students were delighted with the building which faithful to the values of the school is designed as a sculptural ship situated between the city and the sea overlooking the wild forces of nature.
"The architecture expresses the spirit of adventure that through history has characterised the men and women who have chosen the sea as their workplace. We have thus strived to create an architectural symbol of the proud, maritime traditions," Torben Skovbjerg, partner in AART architects, emphasised in his speech at the inauguration.
