AART architects selected for new campus in Aarhus

12.01.2017 / We have won the competition to advise Forskningsfondens Ejendomsselskab (FEAS) on the transformation of Aarhus Municipal Hospital into a new campus for Aarhus University in which a unique combination of university, businesses, housing, shops and public purposes will create a vibrant urban area oozing with life from early morning to late in the evening. We have won the competition together with our great team from Møller & Grønborg, E+N and Trafikplan as sub-consultants.
"By adding new elements to the preserved buildings, the development will get a particular liveliness and become one of Denmark’s most architecturally significant urban areas. The municipal hospital and its surroundings have the same potential as the iconic yellow university buildings on the other side of Nørrebrogade. It originates from the same DNA, and it is rooted in the history and consciousness of people after 120 years as a hospital area", says Tom Nielsen, jury member and professor at the Aarhus School of Architecture.
FEAS will take over the historic hospital area in 2019, after which time Aarhus University will begin moving into the new campus area, which offers more than 110,000 square metres.
