Headquarters for Borregaard
The new headquarters for Borregaard frames the company's sustainable brand by combining inspiring office facilities and eco-friendly features into a vibrant architectural whole.
Borregaard owns and operates the world’s most advanced biorefinery. Based on Borregaard’s innovation work within green carbon the headquarters is designed as a distinctive office building which frames the company’s brand by combining a wide range of eco-friendly features into a vibrant architectural whole.
The headquarters radiates openness which manifests itself in the accommodating arrivals square, the bright lobby and the crystalline façade. From the arrivals square you enter the vast atrium which opens the interior and creates a social focal point where the floors and functions of the building merge and interact. In this way, you experience Borregaard’s values and professional community as soon as you enter the building.
In addition, a series of circular meeting rooms expose the meeting facilities and professional community towards the atrium. As sculptural tree trunks the circular meeting rooms rises up through the atrium and adds a tactile and sensual dimension to the interior, while they express a particular identity by referring to wood as Borregaard’s natural and sustainable raw material.
In order to promote Borregaard as a sustainable bio refinery, the architecture stem from a holistic design based on integrated energy design. This holistic design approach has led to a north-south facing compact building volume which ensures an optimal interrelationship between minimal surface and maximal volume. Moreover, the vast atrium brings daylight deep into the building while the crystalline façade creates a varying inflow of light during the day.
