AART architects win major hospital contract in Norway

09.01.2015 / In partnership with Cowi, Nordic, SLA and Aas-Jakobsen, we have won the competition for the new university hospital in Stavanger with a budget of NOK 8 billion, making it one of the biggest hospital constructions in Scandinavia

The project will involve the building of a university hospital covering a total of 100,000 m2, to serve 330,000 inhabitants and replace Stavanger's existing hospital with 7,300 employees. The first phase consists of a concept phase to develop a robust, detailed concept for the new hospital, and to decide on its final location in Stavanger, where three sites are currently under consideration.

We won the competition ahead of other seven teams consisting of several of Scandinavia's leading architectural and engineering companies. The competition consisted of an interview round for the eight prequalified teams, during which each was assessed in relation to three predefined award criteria consisting of price, working processes and organisation.

The awarding of the contract for the new university hospital strengthens our presence in Norway, where we are currently working on several major projects, including the 19,500 m2 residential complex, the Waterfront, in Stavanger and the 85,000 m2 New Østfold Hospital in Sarpsborg, scheduled to be opened in November 2015. The latter has been designed in partnership with Arkitema Architects and Eliassen Lambertz-Nilssen Arkitekter.
